Program Description:
Join us for an in person LIVE workshop
Awareness of the need to protect our mental health has never been higher, and exercise is proven to be beneficial to emotional and psychological wellbeing. Great coaches can create an environment and activities that nurture good mental health and enable participants with mental illness to reap the benefits of physical activity. At the same time, coaches can face a range of their own mental health challenges. These can include dealing with the pressure of meeting club and participant expectations, setting appropriate professional boundaries, and how to deliver a great class when you’re experiencing stressful times.
This workshop will explore the multiple ways that exercise can protect and enhance our mental wellbeing, and how coaches can support the mental health goals of our participants.
It will also touch on the potential negative impacts of exercise culture on mental health (e.g. exercise dependence, body dissatisfaction) and provide tips on how to engage participants with common mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety. Additionally, it will explore the challenges coaches face, and strategies for dealing with stress and maintaining good mental health.
The workshop is delivered by MI Lou Atkinson (PhD), who holds multiple degrees in Health Psychology and has been researching and teaching on the topic of the psychology of physical activity for 15 years.
We are pleased to offer an Early Bird rate of £35 (inc VAT) for all bookings made before the 1st June - full price £50 (inc VAT)
We are a CIMSPA endorsed training provider.
